EMDR Therapy & Counseling

About Dr. Rodriguez

• I am a licensed psychotherapist and clinical practice educator with over 25 years of experience

• My therapeutic approach is an integrative practice of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) complemented through mindfulness techniques

• My primary goal as a clinician is to facilitate an interactive short-term therapeutic experience that will help clients find the insight and tools they need to support a continued healing process beyond our time and work together

Whichever current struggle that brings you to therapy (e.g., stressful situation, recent loss, anxiety, depression, marital conflict, life transition, adverse traumatic experience, etc.), the most important component for a successful outcome in therapy is the quality of the relationship between therapist and client. Who I am as an individual is parallel to who I am as a clinician – warm, genuine, nonjudgmental, and caring. These attributes coupled with use of evidenced-based practice tools in a skilled manner are what make for a successful therapeutic experience.

Reaching out for help is not an easy endeavor and takes a plethora of courage. Courage to face one’s issues, pain, and the adversity we may have experienced in life. However, sometimes not making the decision to deal with one’s “stuff” is no longer an option. The pain and discomfort in one’s life has reached a threshold that no longer works for one, ultimately impacting one’s quality of life. Here is where a skilled clinician can offer assistance with effective tools for personal healing and growth.

Therapists do not tell you what to do. They do not give you advice. You have been living your life and you are the expert of your life; a therapist will not be the captain of your life, but will serve as a supportive assistant on your journey toward healing, wholeness, and empowerment. Highly competent and ethically trained clinicians walk beside their clients. They join in their journey and help them see turns and forks in the road that have not been previously evident to the client. Often the therapist is required to help you see where self-defeating beliefs and thoughts are impacting your emotions and behaviors. Other times, the wounds are deeper needing more intensive work. Frequently, the latter is the case as we are products of our entire life – the good, the bad, and the in between. Regardless of the presenting issue, the most important first step is the belief in the power of hope and your inherent ability to heal!
